Sushi

This week in Literacy Dedicated Time we have been doing activities all about Japan. We read about a famous dog in Japan, created a Venn diagram with Australia and Japan, made origami animals and wrote a journal entry from Japan.


As you might already know we are looking at procedural texts this term, which includes recipes. In Literacy Dedicated Time we had to read a Sushi recipe and decide on the correct order it should go in. We also had to find the verbs and nouns. Verbs are doing words and nouns are people, places or things. There were lots.


Today we had fun using the recipe to make Sushi! We made some with carrot, some with cucumber and carrot and the most popular was tuna, carrot and cucumber. We also added soy sauce and some even had avacado. It was DELICIOUS!

We can't wait to find out where we are going next week. We will let you know on Monday!

Japan!

We had such a busy and exciting Monday.

We all had to make sure our passports were ready and our suitcases were packed because we all boarded a plane to....JAPAN! When we arrived we had to take our shoes off and leave them at the door because that is what they do in Japan. While we were there we took a look around, we met a boy called Daisuke, we learnt some greetings, we made some japanese craft, learnt how to count in Japanese and sang some Japanese songs. Our most favourite part was singing 'Atama, Kata, Hiza, Ashi', which is the Japanese version of 'Heads and Shoulders, Knees and Toes'.

From Amazing Year 3A and Miss A

We are back in action!

That's right! We are back after a fun and exciting holiday break.

This term we are going to be very busy 'travelling around the world' and learning about different cultures.
Where we are going is a surprise at the moment, but we can't wait.

Amy - I look forward to learning about new places and knowing things I didn't know before.
Kendal - I am looking forward to learning about different names for things and other languages.
Zoe - I am looking forward to going to all different places.
Sommer - I am looking forward to meeting new people and visiting new places.
Jack - I am looking forward to learning about pasta and food if we visit Italy.
Jordan - I would like to go to Jordan!
Bridget - I think this will be the BEST term ever.
Yannick - I am looking forward to maybe visiting where I was born.
Emerson - I am looking forward to site seeing in different places.
Jackson - I am looking forward to perhaps visiting Mexico because I love their corn chips.
Bailey - I would like to go to New York or America.
Maddie - I really want to know why the Statue of Liberty was made and why she is famous.
Monique - I would like to visit Brazil!!
Evan - I would like to visit Italy and learn about the leaning tower of Piza.
William - I would like to learn about all the different cultures in the world.
Caitlin - I would like to learn more about Bali and go back to Fiji.
Hailey - I would like to go to North America to meet more people.
Ethan - I would like to go to Hollywood to become FAMOUS!

Kiah - Oh my goodness - we are travelling around the world! Yay!

Arron - I would love to visit England.

Tedd - I would love to visit Cooking Islands.

So far we have created our passports, packed our suitcases and created a world map. We are all set to begin travelling next week. Did you know there are 7 continents in the world? Australia, Antarctica, North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

This term in English we are writing procedures. This week we wrote instructions on how to make a paper aeroplane. Another person in the class had to have a go at making the plane using our instructions. Some were successful and some didn't work. We have learnt that it is important to be very clear when writing instructions and that we need to include verbs and pictures. We had fun testing the planes to see how far they could travel.

Exciting English

In class we have been writing stories in English. To get us started with our writing we used spinning wheels for ideas for who, what, where, when, how and why. These made our introductions very interesting. We wrote many stories over the term as a class, in groups and on our own. We love sharing our writing!

Our class book this term has been Fudge-a-mania by Judy Bloom. It is HILARIOUS. It is about a boy named fudge and his family. He is a very funny little boy who makes us laugh. We think Judy is a great author and can't wait to read more of her entertaining stories. We have done different writing activities to go with the book in our Literacy dedicated time.

We are all working on our editing and we are getting better and better every day. We also do handwriting and we are working on perfecting our entries and exits.

Some of our favourite spelling and language games are Spelling Swat, Clusters, Scrabble and Boggle.  

WE LOVE LITERACY ROTATIONS!

Super Science

This term in super Sciece we have been learning about interesting plants and how they germinate. We have been thinking really hard about the life cycle of a flowering plant and now we know how it goes.

It goes from a seed, to a seed with a root. Then it gets a shoot and more roots. The shoot keeps on growing and then it grows some leaves. Next it gets a flowering plant. Lastly, it gets a fruiting plant.

We have planted some beans of our own. We used a lunch bag, tissues and some seeds. We need to make sure we water them and put them out in the sun. We like to come in every morning and see just how much they have grown. It is very exciting. We hope they will grow really big.

Terrific Technology

In Technology this term we have been looking at designing and creating different things to go with our Society and Environment topic, Antarctica. We designed and made dioramas that looked like Antarctica. We had to bring in materials to make it and they looked awesome!




Sommer

 

We also had to design an ideal outfit for a person visiting Antarctica. Did you know it is freezing cold there? The clothes need to be very warm and thick to keep the cold air out. We used bright colours to make them stand out and make people want to buy them.

In small groups we have started a campaign on saving Antarctic animals. We have to think of ways to get peoples attention and inform them of what we have learnt. Some of us have made brochures, posters, flyers, songs and news reports. We have had lots of fun working together on our campaigns.

Did you know there are 6 types of birds in Antarctica? They are called the Albatross, Blue Eyed Cormorants, Southern Giant Petrel Arctic Terns, Snow Petrels and Skuas.

It was FUN learning about Antarctica and designing and creating lots of interesting things. We wonder what we will be learning about next term!!
